Protocols

All SAR responders and Field Coordinators who need patient care guidance can call the UNM EMS Consortium at:  505-449-5710

Scope of Practice

The EMS Consortium has established the scope of practice at the basic life support level. Any member holding an EMT-Intermediate or Paramedic license will only be allowed to practice within this basic life support scope of practice.

Protocols

The EMS Consortium medical directors have established and reviewed treatment guidelines specific to DPS SAR usage. They are written to provide evidence-based guidance for prehospital care, particularly in wilderness, remote areas, and resource-limited situations. SAR medical responders are highly encouraged to download a copy to their mobile device for easy reference.

All treatment provided must conform to the New Mexico EMS Scope of Practice for the First Responder and Basic EMT level of licensure REGARDLESS OF ANY HIGHER LEVEL OF EMS LICENSURE for all DPS SAR providers, as well as to all applicable federal, state, and local laws.
